For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and cling to his wife
and the two shall become one.
Such are the words of Genesis upon the creation of Adam and Eve by God. Jesus
quotes these words when He teaches that divorce and re-marriage constitutes
adultery. St. Paul quotes these words in his letter to the Ephesians when he
teaches on the roles of husband and wife.
Since God is the Author of marriage, He defines it. Who is God? God is Love. He
defines what love is. How many wish to alter God’s definition of marital love as
taught continuously and faithfully by the Church! (The Catechism is clear on
marriage.)
How does one re-define God’s creative foundation for civilization – marriage?
One re-defines God. Bishop Sheen used the line, ‘If one does not live as he
believes, he will end believing as he lives.’ How many want to change God’s
teachings to suit them? A finite, flawed human person re-defines God and His
teachings? And, one expects to be happy and fulfilled?
Of course, there is that Person of history, Jesus Christ, Who claimed to be God
and Rose from the dead. He made such statements as:
-I have come not to be served, but to serve and give my life as a ransom for
the many.
-I have come that you might have life and have it to the full.
-I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
-If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know
the truth, and the truth will set you free.
Can and would God ever bless an offense against Himself? How can He give His
approval to an act contrary to Him? It is a contradiction. God is love. He is
goodness. If one chooses against God, it cannot be love nor can it be goodness.
That said, since God is love He always extends His grace of conversion to each of
us. He never gives up on anyone. Each person is His son or daughter. This truth
is at the heart of our dignity as human persons: ‘I am a child of God.’

Por esta razón el hombre dejara a su padre y a su madre y se unirá a su mujer y los
dos serán uno.
Tales son las palabras del libro de Génesis sobre la creación de Dios de Adán y
Eva. Jesús cita estas palabras cuando El enseña que el divorcio y el volver a
casarse constituye adulterio. San Pablo cita estas palabras en su carta a los
Efesios cuando el ensena los papeles de esposo y esposa.
Ya que Dios es el Autor del Matrimonio, Él lo define. ¿Quién es Dios? Dios es
amor. El define lo que es el amor. ¡Cuántos desean alterar la definición del amor
marital de Dios, así como se ha enseñado continua y fielmente por la Iglesia! (El
Catecismo es claro en cuanto al matrimonio).
¿Cómo redefine uno la fundación creativa de Dios para la civilización – el
matrimonio? Uno redefine a Dios. El Obispo Sheen usaba la línea, ‘si uno no vive como cree, va
a terminar creyendo lo que vive’. ¿Cuántos quieren cambiar las enseñanzas de
Dios para su conveniencia? ¿Una persona finita con imperfecciones redefine a
Dios y Sus enseñanzas? ¿Y uno espera ser feliz y pleno?
Por supuesto, es una Persona en la Historia, Jesucristo, quien afirma ser Dios y se
levantó de entre los muertos. El hizo declaraciones como las siguientes:
-Yo no he venido a ser servido sino a servir y a dar mi vida para liberar a
muchos.
– Yo he venido para que ustedes tenga vida y la tengan en plenitud.
– Yo soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida.
– Si ustedes se mantienen en mi palabra, serán verdaderamente mis
discípulos, y ustedes sabrán la verdad, y la verdad los hará libres.
¿Puede, o bendeciría Dios alguna vez una ofensa en contra de Él mismo? ¿Cómo
puede Él dar Su aprobación para un acto contrario a Él? Es una contradicción.
Dios es amor. Él es bondad. Si uno escoge algo contrario a Dios, no puede ser
amor ni puede ser bondad.
Habiendo dicho eso, ya que Dios es amor Él siempre extiende Su gracia de
conversión a cada uno de nosotros. Él nunca se da por vencido con ninguno de nosotros. Cada persona es Su hijo o hija. Esta verdad es el corazón de la dignidad
como seres humanos: ‘Yo soy hijo(a) de Dios’.
