On June 24, thirty self-proclaimed ‘Catholic Democrat’ members of Congress authored a public statement, falsely invoking specific teachings of the Catholic Church to defend their support of a legal right to abortion. Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, President of the USCCB, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge, Chairman of the Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop Daniel E. Flores of Brownsville, Chairman of the Committee on Doctrine, issued a corrective statement in response. Click HERE for the document
“Members of Congress who recently invoked teachings of the Catholic faith itself as justifying abortion or supporting a supposed right to abortion grievously distort the faith. It is wrong and incoherent to claim that the taking of innocent human life at its most vulnerable stage can ever be consistent with the values of supporting the dignity and wellbeing of those in need. […] Conscience rightly enjoys a special regard both in Church teaching and in the public sphere. And policymakers should support the freedom of Catholics and of others to serve the common good in accord with their beliefs in a wide range of areas […] Nevertheless, conscience is not a license to commit evil and take innocent lives. Conscience cannot and does not justify the act or support of abortion.”
On a more POSITIVE note, THANK YOU to all our parents, adult volunteers, teen and pre-teen volunteers in providing a joyful, educational and prayerful Vacation Bible School a week ago! The week had a theme for each day: ‘I am the Good Shepherd,’ ‘I am the Way,’ ‘I am the Light of the World,’ I am the Vine,’ and ‘I am the Bread of Life.’ You may have noticed a few decorations with these themes.
It is always a joy to see the kiddos running around. I was interested especially in the teen boys playing sins that the kiddos had to fend off with pool noodles! A big thank you to Mrs. Margi Loesel, Mrs. Lourdes Highfill and Mrs. Mary Beth Balint for all the preparation and coordination of VBS!
We hope everyone had a safe and joyful Independence Day! Though our country is not perfect, how many have sought out this land to live in freedom, particularly religious?! Our Founding Fathers did a truly great act in establishing this country. How much suffering they endured! Amidst those who would re-write history for their selfish purposes, perhaps it would be good to read the Founding Fathers!

El 24 de junio, treinta ‘Católicos Demócratas’ como se autodenominan ellos, crearon una declaración pública invocando falsamente enseñanzas de la Iglesia Católica específicas para defender su apoyo al derecho legal al aborto. El Arzobispo Timothy P. Broglio, Presidente de la USCCB, el Obispo Michael F. Burbidge, Director del Comité de Actividades Pro-Vida, y el Obispo Daniel E. Flores de Brownsville, Director del Comité de Doctrina, emitieron una declaración correctiva en respuesta.
“Los Miembros del Congreso quienes invocaron recientemente enseñanzas de la Fe Católica misma para justificar el aborto o apoyar el supuesto derecho al aborto, distorsionan gravemente la fe. Es incorrecto e incoherente afirmar que arrancar una vida humana inocente en su estado más vulnerable pueda alguna vez ser consistente con los valores que apoyan la dignidad y el bienestar de aquellos en necesidad. […] La conciencia goza con razón, de una consideración especial tanto en la enseñanza de la Iglesia como como en la esfera pública. Y los políticos responsables deben apoyar la libertad de los católicos y de otros que sirven al bien común de acuerdo a sus creencias en un amplio rango de áreas […] Sin embargo, la conciencia no es una licencia para cometer maldad y arrebatar vidas inocentes. La conciencia no puede y no justifica el acto o el apoyo al aborto.”
En una nota más POSITIVA, ¡GRACIAS a todos nuestros padres de familia, voluntarios adultos, adolescentes y pre adolescentes que proveyeron de una Escuela de Vacaciones Bíblica feliz, educacional y llena de oraciones hace una semana! La semana tuvo un tema para cada día: ‘Yo soy el Buen Pastor’, ‘Yo soy el Camino’, ‘Yo soy la Luz del Mundo’, ‘Yo soy la Vid’ y ‘Yo soy el Pan de Vida’. A lo mejor notaron algunas decoraciones con estos temas.
Siempre es una felicidad ver a lo niños corriendo por todos lados. A mí me interesó especialmente ver a los jóvenes adolescentes varones actuando como pecados, ¡que los niños tenían que defenderse con fideos flotadores! Mil gracias a la Sra. Margi Loesel, Sra. Lourdes Highfill y Sra. Mary Beth Balint por toda la preparación y coordinación para la EVB (BVS)!
¡Esperamos que todos hayan tenido un feliz y seguro Día de Independencia! A pesar de que nuestro país no es perfecto, ¡¿cuantos han buscado esta tierra para vivir en libertad, particularmente de religión?! Nuestros Padres Fundadores hicieron un gran acto al establecer este país. ¡Cuánto sufrimiento padecieron! Entre todos los que quieren re-escribir la historia por sus propios propósitos egoístas, ¡a lo mejor sería bueno leer las notas de los Padres Fundadores!
