Over the course of the last few weeks we have had over 100 of our youngsters receive the Sacrament of Penance/Confession for the first time. If you notice a glow at Masses, perhaps it is coming from these little ones as they receive a greater share of God’s Life in their souls! Thank you parents for guiding your children in the Faith.
The theme which Mrs. Loesel – thank you Mrs. Loesel and your helpers – used for First Confession was that of the Good Shepherd and the Lost Sheep. It is worth consideration as it applies to all of us.
If you recall Our Lord’s parable of the Lost Sheep, the Good Shepherd leaves the ninety-nine sheep to search for the one stray sheep. When he finds the lost sheep, he rejoices. Our Lord goes on to say, “I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.” (Luke 15: 7)
It is a parable that applies to all of us. For, every time we sin we are the lost sheep. The Good Shepherd, Christ, goes after us with grace of repentance to bring us back into the fold.
The Devil constantly tries to separate us from our merciful and loving Father. It is Our Lord’s grace that brings us back into union with Him. He never gives up on us. He is the Good Shepherd.
Before sin the Devil tries to convince us that we need ‘this sin’ to be happy, to be fulfilled. It is always a lie. Sin can never bring us happiness or fulfillment. Only God can bring us happiness and fulfillment.
After a sin the Devil tempts us to discouragement, fear, hopelessness, sadness, isolation and anxiety. None of it is from God.
With forgiveness God gives us His love, peace, joy, hope and trust – every time. It is good for us to remember His words, “I tell you, there will more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”
Notice Our Lord does not put a limit on repentance and joy. The Christian life is a daily struggle. Repentance is daily. There is joy in heaven EVERY TIME a sinner repents and avails himself of God’s mercy.
Shouldn’t there be a similar joy in us repentant sinners?!

En el transcurso de las últimas semanas hemos tenido más de 100 niños recibiendo el sacramento de la Penitencia/Confesión por primera vez. Si ustedes notan un resplandor en las Misas, ¡a lo mejor es que viene de estos pequeños ya que recibieron una gran participación de la Vida de Dios en sus almas! Gracias a los padres de familia por guiar a sus hijos en la Fé.
El tema que la Sra. Loesel – gracias Sra. Loesel y sus ayudantes – usó para la Primera Confesión fue la del Buen Pastor y la Oveja Perdida. Vale la pena considerarlo ya que se aplica a todos nosotros.
Si ustedes se acuerdan de la parábola de Nuestro Señor acerca de la Oveja Perdida, el Buen Pastor deja atrás noventa y nueve ovejas para ir a buscar la oveja perdida. Cuando él encuentra la oveja perdida, él se alegra. Nuestro Señor dice, “Yo les digo, va a haber más alegría en el Cielo por un pecador arrepentido que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan arrepentimiento”. (Lucas 15: 7)
Es una parábola que se aplica todos nosotros. Porque, cada vez que pecamos somos la oveja perdida. El Buen Pastor, Cristo, va tras nosotros con la gracia del arrepentimiento para traernos de regreso a su rebaño.
El diablo trata de separarnos constantemente de nuestro amoroso y misericordioso Padre. Es la gracia de Nuestro Señor la que nos trae de regreso a estar en unión con Él. Él nunca se da por vencido con nosotros. Él es un Buen Pastor.
Antes de pecar el diablo trata de convencernos de que nosotros necesitamos ‘este pecado’ para ser felices, para estar realizados. Siempre es una mentira. El pecado nunca nos puede traer felicidad o realización. Solo Dios nos puede traer felicidad y realización.
Después de pecar el diablo nos tienta a sentir desaliento, miedo, desesperanza, tristeza y ansiedad. Nada de esto viene de Dios.
Con el perdón, Dios nos da Su Amor, paz, alegría, esperanza y confianza – todo el tiempo. Es bueno recordar Sus palabras: “Yo les digo, va a haber más alegría en el Cielo por un pecador arrepentido que por noventa y nueve justos que no necesitan arrepentimiento”.
Noten que Nuestro Señor no pone limite en el arrepentimiento y alegría. La vida cristiana es una lucha diaria. El arrepentimiento es a diario. Hay alegría en el Cielo CADA VEZ que un pecado se arrepiente y se permite a si mismo la misericordia de Dios.
¡¿No debería haber una alegría similar en nosotros pecadores arrepentidos?!
