When needed, Mary provides for the defense and salvation of her children
extraordinary graces and wonderful miracles. What wonders have caused,
sustained, spread everywhere, a confidence among Christian people! What
striking proofs of her protection the Church recalls to our memory in solemn
feasts and devout practices, enriched by precious indulgences! What titles
Christians give her to testify to their gratitude, ‘Help of Christians, health of the
sick, comfort of the afflicted, refuge of sinners, gate of heaven, our life, our
sweetness, our hope!’ What a multitude of people gather to the places where she is most honored, where she obtains the most assistance to those who call on her! What prayers and acts of thanksgiving are offered at the foot of her altars! In our days, what conquests have been made by Our Lady of Victories! What favors have been bestowed on all hearts devoted to the heart of Mary!”

St. Ignatius died in 1556. How many more examples of Our Lady’s intercession
have occurred since then! Some spectacular, some in ordinary life. How about a
few facts of history?
- Pope St. Pius V asked all Christians to pray the Rosary to defeat the Moslem Turk Navy at the Battle of Lepanto (1571). The feast of Our Lady of the Rosary was established on October 7th.
- Pope Innocent XI ordered rosaries prayed in all religious houses and churches in Rome as Christian forces sought to defend Vienna from 300,000 Moslem Turks. In Vienna, there were special devotions at the Capuchin Church to Our Lady of Christians. Following the miraculous Christian victory (1683), Pope Innocent established the universal feast of the Holy Name of Mary on September 12th. It is also a fact that King John Sobieski of Poland with his army left Poland from the shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa on the Assumption.
- St. John Vianney arrived in the small town of Ars, France in 1818. He would be the parish priest until his death in 1859. After a few years of his presence, it was said that one would see men in the fields with their rosaries as they worked!
- As Christians, we strive to follow Jesus’ example in all things, including love for His Mother! May our devotion and love for Our Lord’s Mother grow in this month

San Ignacio Mario en 1556. ¡Cuántos muchos más ejemplos de la intercesión de
Nuestra Señora han ocurrido desde entonces! Algunos espectaculares, algunos
en la vida ordinaria. ¿Qué tal algunos hechos en historia?
- El Papa Pio V le pidió a todos los cristianos que rezaran el Rosario para
derrotar a la naval Musulmana Turca en la Batalla de Lepanto (1571). La
fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Rosario fue establecida el 7 de octubre. - El Papa Inocencio XI ordenó que se rezaran rosarios en todas las casas
religiosas e iglesias de Roma cuando los cristianos buscaban defender Viena
de 300,000 Turcos Musulmanes. En Viena, hay una devoción especial en la
Iglesia Capuchina de Nuestra Señora de los Cristianos. Después de la
milagrosa victoria cristiana (1683), el Papa Inocencio estableció la fiesta
universal del Santo Nombre de María el 12 de septiembre. También es un
hecho que el Rey Juan Sobieski de Polonia salió de Polonia con su ejército
del Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Czestochowa el día de la Asunción. - San Juan Vianney llegó a un pequeño pueblo de Ars, Francia en 1818. Él fue
el sacerdote de la parroquia hasta su muerte en 1859. Después de unos
cuantos años de su presencia, se dice que uno vería a los hombres en los
campos ¡con sus rosarios en mano mientras trabajaban!
