Thank you to all who helped with and participated in Holy Trinity’s Our Lady of the Rosary Festival! It was a tremendous day to honor Our Blessed Mother. Thank you to all of our presenters who helped our families learn about various titles and devotions of Our Lady from around the world! Thank you to all of our cooks and bakers. I am wondering how many different ways our children were able to consume sugar that day – maybe we should have included a ‘fun run’!! In a particular way, thank you to Mrs. Jess Gaulden and her merry band of coordinators!
Fall has sprung! (Or, is that ‘Spring has sprung’?!) Well, the leaves have begun to change as we move into a beautiful season in Virginia. Do you ever drive by cows or horses admiring the colors of fall?! Of course not. But, you will see thousands of people driving on Skyline Drive in just a week or two to take in the fall colors. Why do human beings get up early to see a sunrise? (I know of some people who hike mountains at 3:30am in order to see the sunrise!) Why has man named various constellations in the sky? Why has man composed incredibly beautiful and complex music? Why have human persons painted and sculpted beautiful works of art?
What makes man different from the animals? It is not something physical because we are pretty similar physically to some animals – chimpanzees to be specific. What else is there besides the physical, but the spiritual. There are plenty of people who appreciate all the above – and more – who do not believe in the spiritual. Reality is only the physical. But, if there is only the physical, why do we, and not the animals, appreciate and create beauty? The answer is that we, as human persons, have a spiritual reality that gives us the ability to create and admire beauty. We call it the soul.
Can something physical create something spiritual? It has never happened. It is beyond the powers of something physical to create something spiritual. So, then, where does our spiritual soul come from? It must be created and given by a Spiritual Being, God. Some may say there is no need for God since human beings produce human beings (with rational souls). Therefore, our spiritual part is just part of the evolutionary process. But, isn’t the evolutionary process physical? If one admits that a chimpanzee changed/evolved into a man with a spiritual part, how can that happen? Unless one says, ‘It just did.’ Sounds like faith – believing without seeing. But, not faith in God.

¡Gracias a todos los que ayudaron y participaron en el Festival de Holy Trinity Nuestra Señora del Rosario! Fue un día tremendo para honrar a Nuestra Santísima Madre. ¡Gracias a todos nuestros presentadores que ayudaron a las familias a aprender acerca de varios títulos y devociones a Nuestra Señora alrededor del mundo! ¡Gracias a todos los cocineros! Me pregunto de cuantas formas diferentes nuestros niños pudieron comer dulces ese día – ¡¡a lo mejor deberíamos haber incluido una ‘carrera feliz’!! De una forma particular, ¡gracias a la Sra. Jess Gaulden y a su alegre banda de coordinadores!
¡El otoño ha brotado! (¡¿O es que la primavera ha florecido?!) En fin, las hojas han comenzado a cambiar mientras que nos movemos a la bella estación en Virginia. ¡¿Algunas vez han conducido y visto vacas y caballos admirando los colores del otoño?! Por supuesto que no. Pero, si verán a miles de personas conduciendo en el Skyline Drive dentro de una semana o dos para asimilar los colores del otoño. ¿Por qué los seres humanos se levantan temprano para ver el amanecer? (¡Yo conozco algunas personas que escalan montanas a las 3:30am para poder ver el amanecer!) ¿Por qué el hombre ha nombrado varias constelaciones en el cielo? ¿Por qué ha compuesto música increíblemente bella y compleja? ¿Por qué ha pintado y esculpido hermosas obras de arte?
¿Qué hace al hombre diferente a los animales? No es algo físico porque nosotros somos físicamente muy similares a algunos animales – chimpancés para ser específico. Qué más hay allí además de lo físico sino lo espiritual. Hay mucha gente que aprecia lo anterior – y más – que no cree en lo espiritual. La realidad es solo física. Pero, si solo es física, ¿por qué nosotros y no los animales, apreciamos y creamos belleza? La respuesta es que nosotros, como seres humanos, tenemos una realidad espiritual que nos da la habilidad para crear y admirar la belleza. Nosotros lo llamamos alma.
¿Puede algo físico crear algo spiritual? Nunca ha pasado. Esta más allá del poder de algo físico el crear algo spiritual. Entonces, ¡¿de dónde viene nuestra alma espiritual? Debe haber sido creada y dada por un Ser espiritual, Dios. Algunos dirían que no hay necesidad de Dios ya que los seres humanos producen seres humanos (con almas racionales). Por lo tanto, nuestra parte spiritual solo es parte del proceso evolucionario. Pero, ¿no es que el proceso evolucionario es físico? Si uno admite que el chimpancé cambió/evolucionó para ser un hombre con parte spiritual, ¿cómo puede pasar? A menos que uno diga ‘sólo pasó’. Suena como fe – creer sin ver. Pero fe sin Dios.
